The town of Corapeake located in northeastern North Carolina, dates its history back to the 18th century. The life captured by photographer Kendall Messick has changed very little since the town’s founding. His photographs, taken over a seven year period, explore the nature of memory in that they are about what is remembered as much as what is forgotten. According to Messick, “Corapeake is about love and loss and hope and faith.” “These stories are universal in their depiction of a time and experience not limited to the people of Corapeake or to African Americans or even small towns.”
