Opening reception and artist talk
Friday, January 10 | 5:30-7 pm
Lisa Beane’s last exhibit in Charlottesville was five years ago. Since that time, Beane has continued her introspective journey, addressing life’s hard subjects. In the seven works that comprise “Chapters” she moves away from the ethereal concerns of her last outing, to a more emphatic commentary on human interaction. There is a sculptural quality to these new works as she builds her images off the canvas surface. However, Beane retains her relationship to popular culture, continuing to use her lexica of cartoon figures, ladened with their own socio-cultural baggage, to comment on events both personal and public.
