Darrell Rose began painting in the mid 90’s. His high color neo-expressionist imagery is equally influenced by mid-century European  painting as it is  pan-african culture. He is inspired by his southern roots–Tennessee and New Orleans, as well as African music and religion. The exhibition’s fourteen mixed media images, all painted within the last five years, suggest a mature style which the artist refers to as his after Africa period. They are exemplified by Rose’s continuous experimentation as well as his desire to cause the viewer to have a different experience each time they stand before a canvas.
