Join the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center for a one week summer institute for K-12 educators to explore local history through the lens of African American people. By emphasizing narratives of African American resilience, agency, and resistance, Embracing Our Narratives (EON) helps educators better understand our community and develop a more inclusive curriculum. Educators will learn from local history experts, gain access to tools and resources to use in the classroom, and engage in curriculum planning with colleagues.
The EON Institute will be held June 19-23, 2023 and will meet Monday through Friday for approximately five hours per day. Sessions will include synchronous/live lectures and discussions, asynchronous/individual reflections and activities, and the potential for optional in-person sessions. This is an intermediate level course, and interested participants must have had some racial bias training.
Sessions will be taught by Jefferson School staff, university professors, and community educators. The Institute is free and open to 25 local K-12 teachers. Professional development re-licensure points awarded for completion of course.
Application form may be accessed here. Application deadline is February 28, 2023.
