The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center’s work is only possible with your support and partnership. Contributions to the Center demonstrates your commitment to ensuring a community of diverse histories and cultural practices.
The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center’s mission is to honor and preserve the rich heritage and legacy of the African-American community of Charlottesville-Albemarle, Virginia and to promote a greater appreciation for, and understanding of, the contributions of African Americans and peoples of the Diaspora locally, nationally and globally.
JSAAHC is a non-profit 501c3 organization.
Our Programs
Digital Humanities
Help build and promote the area’s first community driven digital humanities center through your generous donation.
Education
Help us support our k-12 enrichment program, including our school based tours, Trailblazers and lecture series.
Embracing Our Narrative
Help make local African American history accessible to area teachers through our Embracing Our Narrative Teacher Institute.
Public Programs
Help us continue to support the local Albemarle-Charlottesville community through public events and programs. Your donations directly impacts our community.
Contemporary Exhibitions
Each year the center mounts four exhibitions of African American artists in various mediums. Two of these highlight the work of local or regional artists.
Our Heritage Fund
The Heritage Fund is our unrestricted fund. It allows us to meet JSAAHC’s operational needs, from keeping the lights on to paying our staff. Your donation will help us grow.
Other options
There are number of ways you can support our center that do not have to be immediate monetary contributions. If you are interested in contributing to the center, but aren’t sure what the best option is for you, please contact us. Are you looking to contribute to the community through our center? That’s also something we can help with! Contributions can include school scholarships, business grants, and so on.
Planned Giving
There are many ways you can arrange an estate gift to help ensure that the Jefferson School will continue long into the future. Here are some planned gift ideas to consider and discuss with your financial advisor:
- You can transfer stocks and mutual funds to the Heritage Center
- Include the Heritage Center in your will or living trust
- Name the Heritage Center as a beneficiary on your life insurance.
