Born in Albemarle County, Alice Ivory (1931-1999) began making metal sculpture in the 1960s. A prolific artist, her oeuvres consists of as many as 100 sculpture of things she described as familiar—animals, birds, fish. Ivory attended Albemarle Training School, taught art at Jackson P, Burley High School (1952-60)and The Blue Ridge School where she was hired in 1970 to head the art department.The exhibition includes nine works by the artist including the impressive Kangaroo (1980).
