Veronica Jackson engages with the complexities of human environments, both tangible and conceptual. Trained as an architect, she interrogates conventional building practices, challenging established norms. As a printmaker, she merges text and image to confront societal expectations. Her work frequently explores themes of gender and global racial histories.
These themes converge in A Constellation of Blacktivists, an exhibition that reactivates and reimagines narratives of Black activism.
The first series, Blacktivists (2020), comprises twelve hand-printed silkscreens that introduce a new conception of activism, honoring biographies unearthed through Jackson’s research. By fusing the words Black and activists, she opens a space for “an energetic and vigorous advocate of a cause,” expanding and redefining the term itself.
A similar gesture of elevation shapes the second body of work, A Constellation of Blackness (2024). Like its predecessor, Constellation reveals and uplifts hidden narratives. Midway through the exhibition’s run, the two series will be rotated, further challenging viewer expectations and disrupting static modes of display.
