On February 8 at 4PM Dr. Andrea Douglas sits down to talk with Pertelle Gilmore about his first-ever published book, The Unfolding: Evolution of the Apex Predator. The book, in the form of autobiographical poems and short essays of a former gangster, takes us through every dimension of the mind of a young Black male being raised and nurtured in the ferocious streets of the inner city during Americas crack-cocaine epidemic of the 1980’s and 90’s.
Pertelle Gilmore is the founder and former Executive Director of The B.U.C.K. (Brothers United to Cease the Killing) Squad, a non-profit focused on reducing gun-violence by deescalation and conflict resolution. Equipped with over a dozen Social Skill Certifications and a Valedictorian graduate of the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business Entrepreneurship Program he spends his days investing in the community that he once destroyed by mentoring marginalized, at-risk youth, teaching and training conflict resolution and de-escalation, and lecturing about the importance of mental health awareness, social injustice, and criminology. His dynamic lectures and seminars are entertainingly life altering.
The books will be available for sale in the Alumni Room Museum Shop before the event. There will be a signing to follow.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
