Friday night at 6 p.m. is a program Honoring the Ancestors in the JSAAHC Auditorium. Community members will do presentations about ancestors with selected poetic readings and song. This event is free and open to the public.
Saturday is the Juneteenth Parade. Beginning at 10 a.m. down Rose Hill Drive to Preston Ave ending at the front lawn of JSAAHC. At 11:30 a.m. we begin a whole day of food, music and dance scheduled on a main stage until 8pm. Over 30 Black businesses and organizations will have promotional tables set up as well.
JUST ADDED: RAPPING OUR HISTORY artists Waterloo Hampton and Bakari Kennedy will perform music created from oral histories in the JSAAHC archives.
This event is free and open to the public.
Sunday in the JSAAHC Auditorium, Charlottesville Players Guild will present a staged reading of Topdog / Underdog by Suzan Lori Parks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. show begins at 7p.m. All in person tickets, will be at will call. Virtual tickets will receive a link the day of performance. Following the reading there will be a post show discussion with the director, Matthew Reynolds, the cast and community leaders and artists, Sarad Davenport, Zy Bryant, Chris Evans and Rev. Brenda Brown Grooms. Tickets for the reading are on our website.
